The most compact cheap pushchairs for sale (anchor) fold quickly and are easy to carry. They're usually easy to fold in one hand and take up less room when folded than large buggies. They're a great option when you don't have lots of space in your home, or if you're concerned about space restrictions when traveling.
Some models have a smaller footprint when closed, which makes them perfect for small spaces. Some are designed to fit within the baggage allowances for cabin baggage on many flights, or can be carried on your shoulder with a strap or handle.
For a light pushchair, our favorite is the Silver Cross Dune. The Silver Cross Dune is compact and offers all the thoughtful features and a smart design you'd expect from this brand of the past. It also comes with an user-friendly fold, and just similar to the Contours Itsy, it comes in the box fully assembled. It's a great choice for parents who are traveling frequently with their baby. It can fit into most car trunks as well as small trunk spaces.
The Cybex Mios is another option. It straddles the two types of pushchairs to provide a fully functional system that is nimble. It can be used in a parent-facing mode from birth, and switched to world-facing mode when your child grows older. It also comes with an adequate recline feature that's suitable for napping. The Joie Pact Pro makes the perfect travel buggy. It folds so compactly that it can fit into an overhead compartment for luggage and weighs so little that you won't even be able to tell it's there in your trunk. It's also a good day-to-day stroller and our tester Hollie found it easy to steer, even while carrying her toddler. She was impressed by the adjustable handle and lockable wheels, however, she said it's not a particularly comfortable seat. However, she also likes the ability to include extras like the washable, reversible seat liner, rain cover, and an muff for the foot.
The Babyzen YOYO is a similarly compact foldable pushchair. It's not as sleek as the Cybex Libelle, but it's nevertheless a fantastic pack when folded. It is easy to slot in and out of trunks and boots. It offers more newborn options compared to other travel buggies. You can add a newborn cot or bassinet as well as an individual ride on board for older kids and an adapter for tandem seats.
The YOYO is not the most compact pushchair for driving on rough or uneven terrain. The wheels are small and do not perform as well as other models we've evaluated. However, it is still a very manoeuvrable pushchair and the YOYO is capable of maneuvering narrow shopping aisles and muddy trails. It's ideal for city break or a holiday.
The Cosatto Bee6 is a compact travel buggy that comes with numerous features for a price that is surprisingly low. It folds down to the size and weight of a large bag, and is easy to carry on trains and planes. It's also very easy to steer and our MFM tester Matt found it enjoyable to steer, even when a heavy toddler was aboard. The hood is also a advantage, as it can be raised to provide shade and protection from rain and sun. It's ideal for nap time. The only downside is that it lacks under-seat storage, and you'll have to carry or delicately hang a bag on the handlebar (against our expert advice!). You can also buy an additional changing bag holder for this buggy to make it a great holiday buggy.
Easy to maneuver
Wheels on compact pushchairs may appear small, but they are often surprisingly good at navigating narrow aisles and rough terrain. The Micralite is a perfect example. Although it has small wheels, it can handle bumpy pavements easily and sharply turn on narrow roads and even take on a bit of gravel with ease. It features an easy-to-use steering system that is easy to use with just one hand. It folds up into a neat and compact package that is easily stored in its accompanying carrying case.
The majority of compact pushchairs were created for older babies or toddlers. However there are a growing number of them come with a lie-flat option or the option of adding a carrycot (or car seat) so that they can be used from the moment of birth. These clever concertina or Z fold buggies are usually light at 6-8 kg and are cabin-approved on a variety of airlines, making them perfect for travel. MFM Editor Gemma says she has used it on many occasions and is able to use and to store.
If you're looking for a compact fold one, the YOYO is the ultimate model in the compact category and was one of the first buggy models of this kind. It's still a preferred choice among parents, who prefer it over its rivals due to its clever details and superior functionality. It's an excellent choice for frequent travelers, particularly if they want to avoid the hassle of waiting in line at baggage collection by taking their stroller along.
The YOYO is extremely compact, fitting into the accompanying carrying bag with ease and with plenty of room. This makes it an ideal option for frequent travellers, especially those who need to carry a lot of stuff in their luggage. It's also extremely adaptable. You can buy many accessories, including a newborn baby bassinet, bespoke riding boards and twin travel bundles to transform it into a tandem. You can also buy an umbrella and rain cover for added peace of mind.
Comfortable
Hollie, our reviewer, recommends the Silver Cross model to parents looking for a lightweight compact pushchair. It's user-friendly and can be tucked away into the trunk of your car. Its maneuverability and reclined seat are among the best in our tests. It also comes with a tray for parents as well as a storage basket that can accommodate small backpacks, and it comes with great sun-cover options (including a Hood) and straps with padding that make your child feel comfy.
Some compact-fold pushchairs fold down so small that they're certified for use in air travel, making them ideal if you frequently travel or have a limited car boot space. They're usually very light and compact, making them easy to carry around, and can be used in conjunction with a travel system if you choose a version that features a lie-flat seating or comes with an optional baby 'pod' or one of two luxurious foldable carrycots.
A key thing to note when searching for a travel buggy is that not all models are created in the same way. Some manufacturers claim that their compact folding pushchairs fold easily with just one hand. Others might require more effort or two hands to fold it. Examine if the seat reclines. Some are completely flat, whereas others have a slight recline. This could be okay for toddlers, but not for infants.
It's also important to determine whether the model you're looking at is specifically designed for the kind of travel you're planning on doing, such as in the event that you're going to a place that's hot, look out for one that has a vented mesh fabric to help keep your little one cool. Also, if you're planning to go to a place that is windy or rainy, ensure that the stroller you buy comes with an appropriate cover to go with it - generic covers won't fit properly and can let water in.
